Fossil fuels are rare and not very environment-friendly. So it's high time we took advantage of alternatives if we still want to go to work by car everyday (even though it's less than 5 km away from home!).
One possibility is the classic hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells which are used in our Fuel Cell Car as well as in the H-Racer.
But there's also an even more innovative way: With the Salt Water Car Assembly Kit you can construct a car powered by... simple salt water! Yes, really!
How does it work?
The principle is based on a magnesium-air battery:
Just drop a tiny amount of salt water on the thin magnesium platelet (4 pieces included) and you'll start a process in which the magnesium is oxidised with air and salt water. To enable this process, an additional activated carbon electrode works as a catalyser, producing electrical energy to power the car which can drive for 15 minutes.
When all the energy is spent, you can re-start the process by putting another drop of salt water onto the platelet. Each of the 4 magnesium platelets supplies the car with enough electricity to drive for about 4 hours.
Showing in a vivid and fun way how you can easily produce energy in an environment-friendly manner without creating harmful after-effects, the Salt Water Car is both a toy and a fascinating experiment – fun not only for children but for adults too!
