Unpack & Track GPS und GSM Tracker: behind this perhaps pedestrian-sounding name is a simple-to-use, high-quality real time tracking system. The Unpack & Track system consists of a small device with a GPS receiver and a SIM card, along with browser-based software. As a result, the Unpack & Track device, the software, your mobile phone and your e-mail account are all able to communicate. Which means the tracking system offers a lot more than just positioning.
What is it used for?
The Unpack & Track is used primarily for tracking people or objects. This can be useful to keep track of where your family members, your pets or friends are or to track the transportation of valuable goods.
Whatever your reason, all you have to do is place the tracker on the 'target'.
How does it work?
The small tracking device inside the Unpack & Track contains a GPS receiver and a SIM card. The GPS receiver acquires its position from satellites, just like a normal GPS device. The SIM card allows you to retrieve this position. The SIM card uses the GSM network to transmit the position data to the software, your phone or your e-mail address. What's more, the device works not only outside but also inside most buildings.
What are its specifications?
The Unpack & Track device is available in two versions – Basic and Fat Boy. Both versions receive GPS coordinates Europe-wide with an accuracy of up to 2 metres (A-GPS signal, SiRF Star III). 20 satellites are available for tracking use.
Basic: a 76g lightweight device about the size of a cell phone including a protective cover. It uses a lithium-ion battery, which lasts for up to 9 days of active use or 10 days on standby. A mains adapter with mini USB plug is included, and the device is water resistant.
Fat Boy: a 720g more professional device which comes in a stable, water-proof box with a snap hook and two strong magnets (49kg tensile strength). The battery is more powerful, lasting for up to 2 months of active use. A mains adapter plug is included.
What does the software let you do?
The software is browser-based, so, all you need to do is create an account associated with the Unpack & Track device, and you'll then be connected to the device from any computer or PDA with an Internet connection. You log into the program, which will then display the last transmitted position of the tracking device on a map. You can configure the software to display different information: for example how often the position is retrieved – from every 5 seconds (real time) to every 4 hours... or not at all. Plus, you can find out the battery level and the GPS and GSM signal strength. You can also view the last position and the entire tracking history. Up to 50 tracking devices can be managed with one software application, and the data can be exported as a .csv or .doc file.
What else does it do?
Another impressive feature of the Unpack & Track is the determination of a safety zone, with an adjustable radius. If the tracking device leaves that zone, you will receive a warning via email or SMS. You also receive a message when a panic button on the tracking device is pressed. So, for example, if your child gets lost or is in an emergency situation, he/she can press the button and you receive an SMS alert. And to help you take immediate action, the SMS contains not only the GPS coordinates but also the address, i.e. street and house number. This principle also works in reverse: You can call the phone number of the SIM card in the Unpack & Track, and the device will send back an SMS advising you of its position (again, coordinates and street & house no.) – which means that you can access the device without a computer or PDA. You just need your mobile.
What are the additional costs?
Of course, communication via the GSM mobile network costs money, and these fees are not included in the price of the device and software. However, the Unpack & Track system itself has no monthly fee, using a pay-as-you-go system – meaning you pay only when you actually communicate with the device. There are no roaming fees, as usage costs are standardized for the whole of Europe.
Payment is made via a credit system with prices for different quantities. Receiving the position data via the software costs €29 for 5000 retrieved positions up to €359 for 200,000 positions. Receiving by mobile phone costs €12 for 50 SMS up to €99 for 1000 SMS.100 position credits are included with the Unpack & Track to get you started.
The Unpack & Track GPS and GSM Tracker: a cost-effective, easy-to-use, reliable, real time tracker that allows you to keep tabs on valuable possessions, and to help keep your loved ones safe.
In the end we have to mention that it is illegal to follow or shadow individuals with out their knowledge using a device like this GPS tracker.
