Each of us knows them from childhood: These colorful plastic spirals that cheerfully tumble down the stairs when nudged. From today's perspective, one might wonder why such a simple toy could exert such fascination. We can't exactly explain why the Rainbow Spring Rainbow Spiral fascinates us so much either. Maybe because the gliding of the spiral from step to step takes us back to our childhood - or because, as nerds, we are interested in the physics behind the whole thing. We just say: inertia, impulses, kinetic energy, and so on. ;)
